Like you we find ourselves stuck at home, unable to physically visit the incredible destinations we sell. Fortunately we can still travel virtually! And the possibilities are basically endless.

From the warmth of your living room you can go on a virtual game drive in South Africa’s renowned Sabi Sabi Game Reserve or spend the afternoon touring the famous museums and art galleries of Europe.

Many of our experienced and fantastic travel partners have moved online, bringing the wildlife to you. So we have put together a short list of fascinating, stimulating and educational travel-based activities you can do from the confines of your own home.

1 – Explore a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site

There are many pros and cons about technology and giant companies such as Apple and Google. But an undoubtable pro is virtual tours and the genius’ at Google have created a sensational platform to explore ancient sites and World Heritage listed spots such as Machu Picchu and The Taj Mahal. Using this platform ‘Google Arts & Culture’ you can now explore countless tourist hotspots from around the world.

2 – Go on an African Safari

Whilst the world remains in lockdown many African operators are still functioning with a skeleton staff at some of their camps. The staff are functioning mainly as an anti-poaching unit to deter poaches from going into the area whilst camps sit empty of guests. 

Yet this also allows for camp rangers to run virtual game drives, keeping previous visitors and keen wildlife enthusiasts in the loop of the latest goings on. And there have been some remarkable sightings!

Rangers at South Africa’s renowned Sabi Sabi Private Game Reserve witnessed an interaction between two male leopards  whilst in nearby Mala Mala Game Reserve guides came across a rare Pangolin!  For many guides this stacks up as the holy grail of sightings.

Whilst out on their morning and afternoon drives guides will interact with each other and discuss what they are seeing, providing an informative experience for viewers.

3 – Explore a museum or world-renowned art gallery 

When deciding where to travel, for many visiting a renowned museum or art gallery is at the top of the checklist. Over the last decade museums worldwide have increased the number of exhibits available online, now you can explore the very best the world has to offer in ancient history, art and culture all without purchasing that expensive plane ticket!

The National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City is one such example. Showcasing the archeology and history of the Zapotec, Aztec and Mayan cultures as well as the colonial Spanish conquest. There are over 20 rooms busting with ancient artefacts. Again this extensive selection of virtual collections is brought about by Google, and can be found here on their Art’s and Culture webpage. Alternatively many museums offer a similar service via their respective websites.

4 – Documentaries

When we need travel inspiration or wish to learn more about the amazing natural world we live in many people turn to documentaries and in particular series narrated by the evergreen Sir David Attenborough.

Luckily for us free to air channels, Foxtel, Netflix as well as many other platforms offer a wealth of documentaries to choose from. Of course there are plenty of other sensational narrators and series out there, such as Professor Brian Cox. The renowned physicist somehow manages to breakdown the most complex information in such a way that anybody without any scientific knowledge will be able to understand it.
