An intimate lodge in the heart of the Okavango Delta
There are few camps that boast a more idyllic and intimate setting than North Island Okavango. With just 4 elegant and expansive suites, guests can be assured of a relaxing and unforgettable experience, in one of the world’s most beautiful locations – the Okavango Delta.
Each divine suite has been designed to be enveloped by the environment. Built surrounded by ebony, leadwood and mangosteen trees, each suite sits on a raised wooden deck and offers sensational lagoon views. With comfort, luxury and intimacy in mind, guests can soak up the beauty of Botswana on their outdoor deck, complete with sunken lounge and and private plunge pool.
The interior decor is very much modern luxury meets classic safari – the soft khaki colours offer that feeling of a safari of old, whilst magnifying the vibrant colours of the floodplains outside. On one side of the bedroom, the indoor lounge area provides the perfect place to relax during the heat of the day, and boasts superb views of the delta. On the other side, guests can find a spacious ensuite bathroom, fitted with indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a bathtub with views out across the lagoon. Ceiling fans and environmentally-friendly air-conditioners can be found in the bedrooms.
Main area
The camps main area is just as luxurious, and with an equally glorious view infront of a hippo-filled lagoon. For such an intimate camp, North Island Okavango’s main area is grand in scale and design. The separate dining and lounge areas, set under flowing canvas tents, are connected by an expansive wooden deck, punctured only by the enormous trees that sprout through the wood. The deck extends out into the floodplain to a crackling fire pit, surrounded by comfortable couches, perfect for after dinner drinks and stargazing. With plenty of space, there is no shortage of spectacular dining areas, whether in a private or group setting.
There is no shortage of amenities either, with a splendid outdoor gym, a well stocked library with plenty of books on Botswana, in-suite Wi-Fi, battery charging facilities and complimentary laundry service, guests can be assured of an unforgettable stay.
Landscape & Wildlife
Set within an enormous, semi-private game rich concession on the northern fringes of the Okavango Delta (just north-west of the legendary Vumbura and Duba Plains concessions), North Island’s location offers iconic delta beauty in a remote wilderness. Home to an abundance of wildlife and birdlife, explore through floodplains, lagoons, grasslands and palm covered islands by vehicle or mokoro (dugout canoe).
Wildlife abounds, and the region is renowned for its large quantities of buffalo and lion. A predator paradise, leopard, cheetah and wild dog are all found here, as well as rare small cats such as caracal and serval. Plains game also flourish here, including red lechwe, the shy sitatunga antelope, giraffe and zebra. With over 350 bird species – including the sought after Pel’s fishing-owl – this Garden of Eden will leave bird lovers wanting more.
