Set on a tranquil stretch of sand on Madagascar’s idyllic southeastern coast, Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge is a tranquil base from which to explore the natural playground that surrounds the property. There are five thatched luxury bungalows here including a family villa, nestled at the edge of primary forest, each fitted with a timber veranda furnished with lounge chairs and a hammock, where guests can relax while enjoying panoramic views across the bay. A four-poster bed draped in mosquito netting dominates the bedroom, whilst in the ensuite bathroom you’ll find walk-in showers with plenty of hot water.
Delicious meals are served in a communal open-sided restaurant and bar, which features a fireplace and plenty of soft cushions on which to sit whilst soaking up a glorious sunset. Dinner is a three-course affair – a highlight for many visitors – that can be taken either in this communal area or on your own private terrace.
Things to do at Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge include a wide variety of land and water-based activities. Climb up the observation tower to look for whales in the ocean beyond, go for walks in the rainforest to seek out five exotic species of lemurs by day and night, take a motorboat trip into wildlife-rich mangroves or snorkel amid thriving coral reef. You can also visit a market and school to gain an insight into local culture.

How to get to Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge
Scheduled flights leave from Antananarivo several times a week to Fort Dauphin (now known as Tolagnaro). Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge is 2.5 hours’ drive north of this historic seaside city.
