Spirit Bear Lodge provides visitors with a chance to view unique spirit bears
Located in the remote coastal village of Klemtu, deep inside the Great Bear Rainforest, Spirit Bear Lodge provides visitors with a chance to view unique spirit bears. A rare subspecies of black bear sporting a white or cream-coloured coat, spirit bears are revered by the local Kitasso and Xai’xai tribes who call this region home. These special animals share their habitat with grizzlies, wolves, humpback whales, orcas and sea lions in addition to an array of birdlife.
Inspired by the traditional longhouses of West Coast First Nations communities, Spirit Bear Lodge contains 12 comfortable ensuite rooms and a central “Great Room”, which is furnished with inviting couches, two enormous solid cedar dining tables, local Tsimshian art and huge windows overlooking the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Scour the Kitasoo Spirit Bear Conservancy by boat and on foot in search of wildlife, while learning about the age-old customs and traditions of the First Nations people who call this wild area home. You will also gain an insight into environmental projects designed to conserve one of the most biodiverse corners of the planet.
