The enchanting Palace on Wheels is exactly as its name suggest; the train is decorated exactly how the maharajahs of yesteryear would have enjoyed it. Expect 14 extravagant coaches named after former Rajput states, with paintings, colour schemes and furnishings that reflect each individual region. While nostalgic in atmosphere, each of these carriages will make passengers feel like a monarch, with personal attendants at your beck and call throughout your journey.
Taking a maximum of 104 passengers, the Palace on Wheels offers accommodation in 52 wood-panelled twin-bedded cabins, with access to private ensuite facilities. Guests are provided with mineral water and bath amenities, while your “khidmatgar” or attendant is on hand to help with refreshments or any other requests.
Meals are served in two opulent restaurants where diners can choose from various cuisines. However, the emphasis is on the many regional specialties of Rajasthan. There is also a well-stocked bar offering an array of premium spirits. For relaxation, the Palace on Wheels has a lounge with board games and reading materials available.
