Travel to stunning Maruia River Retreat
Find yourself in a world of peace and beauty at Maruia River Retreat, a boutique lodge surrounded by stunning natural wilderness on the Maruia River. With just 7 luxury villas within a 500-acre estate, guests can experience perfect tranquillity to nurture mind, body and soul.
“Maruia” means ‘sheltered or shaded” in Maori, and this very special place is perfect for re-charging your energies, with a forest hot tub, sauna, yoga, indulgent spa, and beautiful 40-year-old gardens. Guests can swim, raft or kayak on the river and explore the wild hills and rivers of this glorious inner West Coast region of New Zealand.
Each of the 7 private, one-bedroom villas is self-contained and beautifully appointed, with brand new Italian kitchenettes, super king beds (or 2 king singles) and luxury linen. The two Master Villas and 5 Luxe Villas are nestled in the estate with views of the river or the gardens. Each features spacious living and dining areas, ensuite marble bathrooms, heated floors and towel racks, full-service kitchenette and air conditioning.
Continental breakfast (complimentary) and three course dinners are prepared in the lodge’s gourmet kitchen with ingredients and produce sourced from their own kitchen-garden and the best of the local region. Local wines and spirits are also a feature, and guests can meet up with others in the central lodge dining and bar area.
Explore the beautiful landscape
Maruia River Retreat is ideal for those looking to explore the natural wonders of the immediate area and further afield. Guests can roam the native beech forests, gardens and river terraces of the Estate, or the nearby Braeburn and Lyell tracks. The area is home to wild deer, goats and numerous bird species, and offers some of the best fly fishing in New Zealand.
See Maruia by air
The estate has a private air strip and helicopter landing area, and private scenic aerial tours can be arranged. Not far from the estate plenty of other outdoor adventures can be found, from waterfalls and hot springs to mountain biking, jet boating or visits to the Reefton Gin Distillery.
