- Visit Hokitika Gorge where the water is a beautiful turquoise blue due to the alluvial silt from the glaciers and Southern alps (25 minutes from lodge).
- Take an easy 15 minute walk to the swing bridge.
- Enjoy some of the lovely walks at Lake Kaniere with short easy walks to Dorothy Waterfalls and Canoe Cove.
- Go fishing at Lake Kaniere or on the Hokitika River
- Cycle wilderness trails through spectacular scenery
- Drive to Punakaiki (pancake rocks) with its huge blow hole (1h 25 minutes)
- Explore nearby Paparoa National Park with its coastal forest, limestone cliffs, canyons, mysterious caves and spectacular coastline.
Rimu Lodge is within walking distance of Hokitika, the largest town in Westland District at the mouth of Hokitika River. The lodge is a great place to stay as part of a self-drive itinerary following the west coast of the South Island between Nelson to Queenstown.
