This 8-day safari combines legendary Hwange National Park, with little known, yet just as exceptional Matobo National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its dramatic landscapes and age-old Bushman rock art.

Staying at beautiful Amalinda Lodge, built into the rocks of an ancient bushman shelter, discover a world of timeless beauty and wonder. Witness ancient San Bushman cave paintings, hike through dramatic landscapes, cycle through traditional Ndebele villages and track rhino on foot with highly skilled guides – an unforgettable experience. During the middle of the day, relax around the lodges stunning communal areas, and sip cocktails lounging around the impressive natural granite infinity rock pool.

Next, explore beautiful Hwange National Park renowned for its elephant and lion densities, staying at either Khulu Bush Camp or Sable Valley. The lodges sit in a private 15,000-acre concession home to over 300 bird species, elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, cheetah and African wild dog. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives and walking safaris, or visit the Hwange Research Centre to learn more about the conservation, rehabilitation and research efforts underway to protect the African Wild Dog.

Days 1-3

Matobo National Park

Today transfer from Bulawayo Airport to Amalinda Lodge by road, a beautiful small lodge built into the rocks of an ancient bushman shelter. Set within the Matobo Hills UNESCO World Heritage Site, discover what this unique and mysterious region has to offer. Each day, witness ancient San Bushman cave paintings, hike through dramatic landscapes, visit traditional Ndebele villages and track rhino on foot with highly skilled guides – an unforgettable experience

The lodge consists of 9 unique rooms – all are different as they are built into the surrounding rock formations – whilst the main are consists of a dining area and library, as well as an impressive natural granite infinity rock pool. During the middle of the day, relax around this stunning lodge and sip cocktails lounging around the pool.

Days 4-7

Hwange National Park

This morning transfer to Hwange National Park – Zimbabwe’s most famous – renowned for its huge herds of elephant as well as predators including lion, leopard and cheetah. Staying at either Khulu Bush Camp or Sable Valley, enjoy day and night game drives, and exciting bush walks with expert guides. Zimbabwe is well-known for walking safaris, and Zimbabwean guides are widely recognised as some of the best in Africa.

For guests wishing to learn a bit more about conservation in Zimbabwe, particularly in relation to the endangered African Wild Dog (also known as the African Painted Dog), then a visit to the Hwange Research Centre is a must. Zimbabwe is a stronghold for African Painted Dogs and boasts one of the largest populations of this endangered species. There is no charge for this experience, but it highly recommended to make a voluntary donation or purchase something from the curio shop – with all proceeds going to the program.

Day 8

Victoria Falls

After one last game drive this morning, transfer to Victoria Falls by road (approx. 2.5 hours) where your tour ends.

Matobo National Park rock paintings

Matobo National Park

This breathtaking national park has been designated a World Heritage Site for its age-old bushman rock art as well as its dramatic landscapes. These rock formations called “kopjes”, date back over 2 million years, and provide an incredible backdrop to the surrounding wilderness. Matobo, meaning “bald head” in the local Ndebele language is also home to one of Africa’s most iconic species – the rhino.

Hwange National Park

The Amalinda Collection boasts a 15,000-acre private concession neighbouring Hwange National Park. Staying at either Sable Valley or Khulu Bush Camp, guests can explore the concession as well as the national park. Sable Valley has its own underground hide that provides a unique perspective and up-close game viewing experience, with frequent visits from elephants, buffalo, rare sable antelope and a variety of other wildlife. Fully equipped, it features plugs for charging cameras, a fireplace, a mini bar and multiple seating areas. Meanwhile luxurious Khulu Bush overlooks an ancient riverbed and offers a front-row seat to witness large elephant herds, a wide variety of other wildlife and sensational birdlife.
